The ultimate secret to a long healthy life: Pomegranate

Pomegranate contains antioxidant, antiviral and antitumor properties. It is said to be a good source of vitamins and folic acids. It is also called a healthy powerhouse.

Researchers have found that it boost muscles strength and helps to counteract ageing. When we drink pomegranate juice, our body produces Urolithin A — a molecule.

This molecule then gets transformed by microbes in the gut, enabling the muscle cells to protect themselves against ageing and also increases the muscle mass.

As we age, our cells struggle more to recycle the mitochondria and gets difficult to carry out their vital function and thus gets accumulated in the cell. This affects the health of many tissues such as our muscles gradually weaken over the years and leads to age-related various diseases.

Researchers have found that Urolithin A, produced by pomegranate, re-establish the cell’s ability to recycle the components of the defective mitochondria. This is the only molecule found till today that can re-establish the mitochondria.

It is completely a natural substance with powerful and measurable effects. It is also known as “Fruit of Paradice”.

For the study, the team tested their hypothesis on the nematode C.elegans (roundworm) which is considered elderly, after just 8–10 days. The worms exposed to Urolithin A has increased their lifespan by more than 45 percent when compared with the non-exposures.

In the rodent studies, mice of two years of age were exposed to Urolithin A and the result they showed was their lifespan has increased by more than 42 percent when compared with the non-exposures.

Let’s Conclude:

Pomegranate itself doesn’t contain Urolithin A; the miracle molecule, but rather its a precursor.

The amount of Urolithin A produced may vary depending on the species of animal and the flora present in the gut microbiome.
